Flexo Press Operator
Job Purpose
The Flexo Press Operator is responsible for running up to a 6-color, narrow-web, 18” to 20” Flexo Press including daily start-up, production runs, clean-ups and shutdowns. The operator will be exposed to a variety of new projects, materials, applications and team sizes and will need to be ambitious, inquisitive and possess a track record of successful troubleshooting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Follow all Company safety policies and safety procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment
- Use Company specific system (APEX) in order to perform job order review to ensure job requirements are known and understood
- Review schedule to ensure the correct materials are being used to make the production run
- Verify pH and viscosity of inks during setup and throughout the production run
- Troubleshoot machine-related problems such as tension, pressure, settings, irregular ink distribution and web breaks
- Verify that job processes, spec sheets, samples, proofs, and drawings are correct before production run.
- Maintain quality standards by running within specifications, ensuring correct registration, color, and overall print quality.
- Maximize production on the press
- Assign job tasks to team members as required by each job and manage their performance during each job
- Teach and mentor less experienced operators
- Load and unload press components required to perform effective changeovers
- Perform all quality checks required by each job for start-up and production runs
- Accurately complete all job-related paperwork
- Interpret drawings to meet customer specifications
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues as needed
- Perform routine press maintenance
- Maintain inventory accuracy
- Maintain accurate inventories on parts that are not cycle counted
- Interface and work with other Press Operators and Scheduling
- Participate in training as/when required by management
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Production Manager

Education and/or Experience

- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required
- Technical certification or Associates Degree in printing processes preferred
- Experience with Flexo presses preferred, but not required
- Ability to visibly match color to standards
- Knowledge of color theory preferred, but not required
Specific Skills, Licensure and Certifications

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals
- Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume and ability to accurately read a ruler/tape measure
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Computer experience and knowledge
- Ability to learn and use Company-specific systems
- Must be self motivated, detail-oriented and work well under pressure
- Good mechanical aptitude

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee may occasionally perform work-related travel.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud dependent upon the machinery you are exposed to. In such cases, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
