Situation Summary
A producer and packer of environmentally friendly pest management products (insecticides, fungicides, bactericides, herbicides, bio-nutritionals, plant growth regulators, etc.) requires over 30 different label sizes — some with a very narrow width. All of their labels are auto-applied and are required to stand up to outdoor exposure including excessive UV exposure. Looking to replace an aging and unsupported fleet of Vivo! printers with newer color inkjet technology, Brandywine worked with them to identify a durable pigment ink printer solution that delivers width-specific accuracy and consistency.
Challenges
- Roll to roll label printing must work seamlessly with Corel Draw software
- Edge to edge printing required on most label sizes including many narrow width label sizes (1.25”, 1.5”, 2.75”, 3.25”)
- Multi-out formats required extra slitting and finishing work after printing
- Growing demand required label inventory management and rapid deliverables of newly developed product sizes
- Existing printers were constantly unavailable due to excessive repair or replacement
Solutions and Success!
- Brandywine provided a high-speed Epson C7500 color inkjet printer as a test unit to confirm communications with Corel Draw and to show consistent performance on narrow width labels
- Brandywine virtually demonstrated the new Epson C6500A color inkjet printer for all sizes of labels (from 1.5” to 8.5” wide)
- The print quality, chemical resistance and ease of application of Brandywine Prime™ Glossy paper roll labels was a significant improvement over the previous label solution
- Brandywine built customized min/max label inventory to cover customer’s production planning requirements allowing for immediate shipment to fulfill future orders
- Customer successfully implemented the Epson C7500 in August for 8 different narrow width labels sizes
- Customer successfully implemented five Epson C6500A printers with external winders and rewinders for their other 20+ label sizes
- Customer reports that label printing efficiency and quality is magnitudes better compared to their previous struggles with Vivo! and 300X printers
