Material Handler
Job Purpose
The Material Handler is responsible for pulling raw materials and WIP (work-in-process) to supply various departments for production, as directed by the production supervisors and Transportation Manager. This position will receive and put away incoming truck shipments and assist in other areas of shipping and receiving as workload dictates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Follow all Company safety policies and safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Follow all Company policies, rules, and regulations.
- Act as a professional representative of Wausau Coated Products, Inc. at all times.
- Operate a powered industrial truck safely and efficiently.
- Keep equipment supplied with raw materials.
- Scan and store items according to established location scanning procedures.
- Inspect materials for defects, i.e. splices, broke, roll damage.
- Move inventory to various locations using forklift, pallet jack or hand cart.
- Enter data into Company-specific computer system, APEX.
- Maintain computerized inventory records, take physical count periodically and check against inventory control totals.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate effectively between shift hand-offs and various departments.
- Continually demonstrate a productive and non-disruptive work ethic communicating with management regarding employee relations issues and safety concerns.
- Work in such a way to create a high-quality output with a continuing desire to learn new things and improve the efficiency of work processes.
- Maintain Company equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly manner and notify management of any damage to equipment, product, or other Company property.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in material handling, shipping, receiving or related field.
- Minimum one (1) year experience with inventory control processes.
- Experience operating powered industrial equipment required.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn Company-specific systems.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and interpersonal.
Specific Skills, Licensure and Certifications
- Ability to ask for help when needed, and willingness to learn.
- Must be self-directed and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, manuals and schedules.
- Ability to calculate basic math figures, such as addition, subtraction, division.
- Good organizational skills.

- Willingness to be a team player.
- Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee may occasionally perform work related travel.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud dependent upon the machinery you are exposed to. In such cases wearing of PPE is mandatory.
